About AudioKit
We're on a mission to make audio editing private, fast, and accessible to everyone.
Our Mission
AudioKit was built out of a simple frustration: existing audio conversion tools require you to upload your private files to unknown servers. Whether it's a voice memo, a podcast episode, or a music recording, your files contain personal information that shouldn't leave your device.
We believe privacy shouldn't be a luxury or an afterthought. By leveraging modern web technologies like WebAssembly, we've created a solution that's both powerful and completely private. Your files never leave your browser, yet you get professional-quality audio processing.
Our goal is simple: Make AudioKit the best audio conversion and editing tool on the web, without compromising your privacy or charging you a penny.
Our Story
The Problem
Traditional audio converters require uploading your files to a server. This raises serious privacy concerns: Who has access to your files? Are they stored? Are they analyzed for advertising? For sensitive content like business calls, podcast drafts, or personal recordings, this simply isn't acceptable.
The Solution
With the advent of WebAssembly, it became possible to run powerful software like FFmpeg directly in the browser. This meant we could process audio files client-side—on your device—without any server involvement. The technology existed; someone just needed to build a great user experience around it.
AudioKit is Born
We set out to create the audio tool we wished existed: fast, powerful, beautiful, and completely private. After months of development, AudioKit launched with five core tools that all run entirely in your browser. No uploads, no tracking, no compromises.
How It Works
The technical magic behind AudioKit's privacy-first approach
WebAssembly (Wasm)
WebAssembly is a low-level programming language that runs in your browser at near-native speed. It allows us to run complex software like FFmpeg directly in your browser, enabling professional-quality audio processing without any server.
FFmpeg.wasm
FFmpeg is the industry-standard tool for audio and video processing, used by professionals worldwide. FFmpeg.wasm brings this powerful software to the browser, giving you desktop-grade capabilities with web convenience.
The Process
You Select a File
Your file is loaded into your browser's memory. It stays on your device.
Choose Your Settings
Select output format, quality, and other options. All settings are processed locally.
FFmpeg.wasm Processes
The WebAssembly version of FFmpeg runs in your browser, converting or editing your file using your device's CPU.
Download Your Result
The processed file is generated in your browser memory. You download it directly—no server upload or download required.
Why Privacy Matters
Understanding the risks of traditional audio converters
Your Files Are Valuable
Audio files often contain sensitive information: business meetings, podcast drafts, personal voice memos, copyrighted music. When you upload these to a server, you're trusting a company with your most private content.
Unknown Retention Policies
How long do file conversion services keep your files? Do they delete them immediately? After 24 hours? Never? Most services don't disclose this clearly, leaving you in the dark about your own content.
Data Breaches Happen
Even well-intentioned companies can be hacked. If your files are stored on a server, they're vulnerable to data breaches, unauthorized access, and leaks. With AudioKit, there's nothing to breach—your files never leave your device.
The AudioKit Guarantee
We can't access your files even if we wanted to. They never reach our servers, so there's nothing to store, nothing to breach, and nothing to worry about. Your privacy is guaranteed by design, not by policy.
